I probably have one of the other boats from this same family (mine
was sail #22). I have a Nacra 6.0 Original that the owner (who lived
in Orange County) converted to a pseudo-NA shortly after the 5.8NA
came out. Apparently, the self-tacking jib didn’t provide enough
sail area downwind.

My mast step/pin arrangement is designed to hold the ball captive
while raising the mast, but I wouldn’t depend on it. I’ve put enough
pressure on it to strip the threads on the ball and pop it off the
rod. After lifting that mast for the first couple of seasons, I got
smarter and put a winch on the trailer’s front mast support and that
helps to lift it and it applies pressure on to the mast ball.

The true 6.0 NAs also have a slightly larger main and double
diamond wires on the mast. I have the original main and was told
that if I put the bigger main on that I’d run a high risk of breaking
the mast without the double diamond wire setup.

As for the downhaul, my orignal sail had a metal plate in the tack
that had a slot with a small block and two blocks on each side which
allowed me to rig a 4:1 on each side and pass it through the sail for
an 8:1 total. When I bought a new Original sail, it had just a big
grommet in the tack which I’ve used to make a cascading 16:1.
