James Spithill And Russell Coutts To Match Race In Extreme 40s
A new event was presented last Friday in Milan, Italy. It will take place in Cattolica, on the Italian Adriatic coast, from Thursday till Sunday and will see James Spithill and Russell Coutts, respectively helmsman and CEO of BMW Oracle, face off in a series of match races.

The two sailors will participate in this exhibition regatta, organized by their Italian teammate Max Sirena, aboard the now-famous Extreme 40 catamarans in what will probably be a training session for the upcoming 33rd America’s Cup Match, presumably to be held some time between October 2008 and July 2009.

Two New Floats But No Jules Verne Trophy
On 18th February 2008, whilst sailing with a day’s lead over Orange’s record, Groupama 3 fell victim to serious damage to her port float. In a matter of seconds, the maxi trimaran skippered by Franck Cammas flipped over.

Five days later Groupama 3 was righted in the New Zealand port of Dunedin and then loaded onto a cargo ship. After five weeks at sea, the Atlantic record-breaking trimaran was unloaded in Lorient and then delivered to the Multiplast yard where it was built.

IRC UK National Championship: Snakes And Ladders!

Lack of wind caused a delay to racing in the final day of the IRC National Championship organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club. Racing finally got under way at shortly after one o’clock. Windward/leeward courses with a leeward gate in the central Solent were the battle grounds for some superb sailing and plenty of drama.

There were numerous general recalls and Z flag penalties as competitors, right through all five classes, were too eager to nail the start line.
