5.5 European Championship

Aland, Finland: The protests have been sorted and results are now finalKristian Nergaard, Petrus Elde and Johan Barne in Artemix XIV have taken the 5.5 European Championship, tossing out a sixth place in the final race to finish with 14 points. Christoph Burger, Christof Wilke, Mathias Dahlman sailing ODLO finished 4th in the final race, enough to get them the Silver. Bronze to Jurg Menzi Daniel Stampfli and Leonard Gaume by winning the final race.

Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club Wins Hinman Masters Team Race
Newport, Rhode Island, USA: Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club, in Oyster Bay, NY, won the 2008 New York Yacht Club’s Invitational Regatta for the Commodore George R. Hinman Masters Trophy — better known as the Hinman Masters. The three-day team-racing event was sailed at the NYYC’s Harbour Court in Newport, August 15-17.

In second place was the New York Yacht Club, and third was Noroton, of Noroton, CT. Two points each separated the top-three teams.

Rounding out the standings were Southern, in New Orleans, Larchmont, in New York, Royal Thames, London, England, and Ida Lewis, Newport.

Clyde Challenger Crew Evacuated After Leak Causes Flooding
All 13 crew members of the Clyde Challenger, one of the vessels taking part in The Tall Ships’ Races 2008, were rescued overnight from their stricken vessel in the North Sea. All are safe and well. The 18m cutter was competing in final leg of the race series, from Bergen (Norway) to Den Helder (Netherlands). She reported taking on water last night and issued a Mayday call at around 2150 hours.
